The area around Modlin Airport is more than a runway. Within a short drive you'll find a 19th-century fortress, wild rivers, a primeval forest and Chopin's birthplace.
For 2–3 hours
Modlin Fortress
A vast complex from the times of Napoleon and Tsarist Russia, with barracks called the longest building in Europe, the Red Tower viewing terraces and a museum of the 1939 defence. More in our article: Modlin Fortress – what to see.
Where the Narew meets the Vistula
By the fortress the Narew, Wkra and Vistula rivers meet. A sunset walk by the water with a view of the old granary ruins is one of the nicest spots around.
For a full day
Kampinos National Park
Across the Vistula begins the Kampinos Forest – a national park and UNESCO biosphere reserve with inland sand dunes, marshes and hundreds of kilometres of walking and cycling trails. On its edge is the Palmiry Cemetery and Museum.
Żelazowa Wola
Fryderyk Chopin's birthplace and park – within a car trip. Chopin concerts are held there in season.
